Sharil Tarmizi

Held the position of Chairman and Chief Executive of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), an independent regulatory body set up by an Act of Parliament to develop, oversee and regulate the communications and multimedia sector in Malaysia from 16 October 2011 to 31 December 2014. He was also an ICANN Board Member and Chairman of ICANN's GAC from 2004 to 2007.

MCMC's scope spans broadband, Internet, telecommunications, ICT products and services as well as the postal and courier services and digital signature services. The Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA 1998) was the world's first converged legislation covering telecoms, broadcasting, broadband, internet, spectrum and electronic addressing.

Graduated with a LL.B (Hons) from Aberystwyth University before qualifying as a Barrister, of Gray's Inn, UK. Worked closely with international organizations such as ICANN, ISOC, ITU, World Bank, the WTO, APT, PITA, CTO, IIC, UPU and UNICEF. Sharil was also with ITU's mPowering and Vice Chair of ITU's COP.
